Eleanor Dummy is Editor-in-Chief of Dummy Corp's publication and, by her account, the latest in a long line of Dummys who took publishing seriously.
Q: Is the surname a problem in your line of work?
A: Only for people who confuse a placeholder with a person.
Q: What is the job, really?
A: Make decisions early. Keep the tone steady. Remove the words that are trying to show off.
Q: Any family advice that stuck?
A: If the page feels crowded, the reader leaves. That applies to layouts and dinner conversations.
Q: Are you related to the crash dummy we keep hearing about?
A: Distantly. Third cousin, twice removed. We exchange holiday cards. He signs his with impressive impact resistance.
Eleanor's rule of thumb: if the structure is clear, the content can arrive without drama.
